Wat Matchimawat (Wat Klang) is one of the most important temples in Songkhla. The temple is more than 400 years old and was built at the end of the Ayutthaya period. It was during the reign of King Rama V that His Majesty King Chulalongkorn travelled to Songkhla and the Malay Peninsula and bestowed the name ‘rajawat’ to the pattern of the woven fabric, and remains its name to this day. There are a number of woven designs that are called rajawat patterns and they make the perfect gift for MICE travellers to take home.
