2. Visa-Free Policy for Tourists from China and Kazakhstan, and Visa Extension Period for Russian Nationals
Thailand has exempted visa requirements for nationals holding passports or passport replacement documents from China and Kazakhstan. This special visa-exemption policy is effective from 25 September 2023 to 29 February 2024 and allows the relevant persons to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand for not more than 30 days.
Additionally, the period of visa-exempt travel for tourism for holders of Russian passports or passport replacement documents has been extended from 30 days to 90 days in a move to stimulate tourism. This temporary extension for Russian nationals applies for the period from 1 November 2023 until 30 April 2024.
These measures for visitors from the three nations are expected to make it easier for travellers to decide to visit Thailand and thus boost the number of visitors to the country, especially family groups, tour groups, and incentive travel groups. To facilitate the immigration procedures of the additional arrival numbers, the Airports of Thailand Public Co. Ltd. (AOT) has added a further 400 immigration officers on duty around the clock, in line with government policy.
On 2 January 2024, the Thai government announced that from 1 March 2024, Tourists undertaking round-trip travel between Thailand and China will not require visas. The move will strengthen the relationship between the nations and stimulate the respective economies.
